Welcome!

I am a musician/teacher/author based in Sonoma County, CA.
I play a variety of instruments. My main musical interests are Folk and Jazz. I love playing Old Time, Celtic, Bluegrass and many other kinds of music. I have an interest in lesser known styles. I've spent many years learning traditional music, experiencing the joy of it and sharing it with others!

In 2011 I wrote a song called “The ABC’s of Jug Band Music” that became a children’s book, published in June of 2019. Now it's available in over 20 bookstores, across 8 states! I love doing in-store appearances, book signings and kid’s concerts. I perform fun, interactive school assemblies built around the book and my musical background. I teach about the history of jug band and show people how to build and play their own homemade instruments. I love to inspire people and teach them how to enjoy this wonderful folk tradition!

As a working musician, enjoy playing a variety of gigs, from square dances to weddings and everything in between. I love to perform at festivals and wherever people appreciate music. I also love meeting other musicians and collaborating on projects!

I teach ages 5 and up both privately and in group settings. Instruments I have taught include violin/fiddle, mandolin, guitar, bass, banjo, piano, harmonica, percussion, vocals, kazoo and jug!

All Lessons are currently taught online via FaceTime, Duo, and more!

I am a regular instructor at the Walker Creek Music Camp, as well as the Santa Rosa Symphony's Summer Music Academy.

Morgan Cochneuer is a musician, a teacher, and the author of a new book titled "The ABC's of Jug Band Music." It is a singable alphabet book based on the familiar "ABC Song." This unique book also teaches lessons about music, jug band music in particular (that's music with homemade instruments). Morgan loves to visit schools and libraries, helping students learn the fundamentals of reading and teaching them about this terrific American folk tradition. His presentations include talking about the process of writing and publishing the book, the history of jug band music, showing kids how to make their own inexpensive instruments and demonstrating how to really play them!
